The Garibay Family’s Impact

May is known as the Month of Miracles, and we are lucky to know a family and their community that has significantly contributed to miracle making at the UVM Children’s Hospital: Bridget and Valdemar Garibay.

Bridget and Valdemar Garibay have inspired the employees at their company, Med Associates Inc, to be champions of the annual 98.9 WOKO Big Change Roundup for Kids radiothon fundraiser. The Garibay’s and their employees host a variety of different individual fundraisers like bake sales, giving trees, raffles, and more. Additionally, Med Associates has served as the Matching Buckaroo Sponsor for the past 4 years, encouraging online participants to raise up to $15,000 matched by the company. The Med Associates Inc team is one of the top fundraising teams annually, raising $33,482.87 in 2024.

In addition to the Big Change Roundup, Valdemar and Bridget Garibay have generously named two rooms in our hospital, one located in our outpatient Children’s Specialty Center and one located on our inpatient Mother-Baby Unit on Baird 7. For many years, the Garibay’s have donated VT Teddy Bears to the Mother-Baby Unit so families staying in the Garibay room with their newborn receive a bear, and this year they increased their donation to also include patients seen in the Garibay room in the Children’s Specialty Center.

The Garibay Family knows firsthand how important it is to have a high quality, child-friendly, and family centered children’s hospital in our community, and over the past 10 years, they’ve demonstrated their commitment to changing kids’ health to change the future of pediatric care in Vermont and northern New York!
